Chef Peter heads the fabulous culinary team at Le Mas des Poiriers. Peter came to us via the culinary school at Utah Valley University. He was the husband of a friend of mine and was a chef for years at a high end private club on Park Avenue in New York City. After marrying my friend he followed her west to Utah where he became a culinary school professor at the 37,000 student Utah Valley University.
As I was setting up the culinary side of the house I would call Peter to ask him for guidance . By the time I called him the third time he said I will go there this summer and set it up for you if you just stop calling! Ha! I was so happy. The first summer Peter worked with local sous chefs and set up our kitchen properly. While he was there he saw the vision of a culinary school at the house and asked if I would be willing. My husband and I have long been supporters of educating youth and were thrilled about the collaboration. Peter presented it to the university and created the UVU Le Mas des Poiriers culinary internship for senior students of the UVU culinary school.
Peter takes applications in the early fall, interviews the applicants and selects four students for the program. During winter semester, the students take French and hospitality classes along with their cooking classes. They arrive ready to go and spend a summer in the Le Mas des Poiriers kitchen learning from Chef Peter and in the markets of Provence picking the freshest of produce, cheese and meats. We love the program as do our guests and are proud to host a cooking school on property.
My daughter Kennady is headed to your beautiful location with chef Peter in just a few weeks! She is beyond excited! Thank you so much for giving these students a amazing opportunity to grow and learn!
